Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes
Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut Holes with Nutella are irresistibly soft, fluffy bites of dough, fried to golden perfection and coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture. Ingredients
- For the Dough:
- -100 g (1/2 cup) whole milk
- -1 large egg
- -150 g (2/3 cup) cold water
- -1 tsp salt
- -80 g (1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) granulated sugar
- -1 tbsp dry instant yeast
- -95 g (6 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
- -560 g (4 1/2 cups) bread flour ( you can also use All Purpose Flour but the dough might turn a bit stickier so add 1-2 tbsp more flour until the dough is workable.
- -oil (for frying) you can use any neutral oil such as vegetable, canola etc
- For Cinnamon Sugar:
- -70 g (1/4 cup) granulated sugar
- -10 g (1 tbsp) ground cinnamon
- For Topping:
- -Nutella or chocolate chips (melted in the microwave for 20–30 seconds)
Directions
- Step 1
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar and yeast and mix. In a separate combine milk, egg, cold water and mix.
- Step 2
- Using a Stand Mixer: Attach the dough hook to your mixer. Knead on low speed and gradually add the liquid mixture after about 3-4mins add the softened butter and knead on low speed for an additional 8–10 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Cover with kitchen towel and let it rise for about 30mins.
- Step 3
- Hand Kneading: Mix the dough with a wooden spoon until it comes together. Transfer it to a floured surface and knead by hand for 10–12 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 30mins.
- Step 4
- Shape the Doughnuts: Divide it into small, equal portions (about 20g each) and roll into smooth balls.
- Step 5
- Fry the Doughnut Holes: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry dough balls in small batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown (about 3–4 minutes per batch). Remove and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Step 6
- Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. While the doughnut holes are still warm, roll them in the mixture until fully coated.
- Step 7
- Serve: Drizzle or dip the doughnut holes in melted Nutella for an extra indulgent topping.
