Banana Bread Cookies with Chocolate Chips & Cream Cheese Frosting

These soft, cakey banana bread cookies are packed with chocolate chips, spiced just right with cinnamon and nutmeg, and topped with a smooth cream cheese frosting. They’re like a cross between your favorite banana bread and a bakery-style cookie—with optional walnuts or pecans and a delightful banana chip garnish!

Ingredients
  • Cookie Dough:
  • -2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour → 300 g
  • -5 tsp cornstarch → 15 g
  • -1/2 tsp baking powder → 2 g
  • -1/2 tsp baking soda → 2 g
  • -1/2 tsp salt → 3 g
  • -1 tsp cinnamon → 1.5 g
  • -1/4 tsp nutmeg → 0.5 g
  • -8 Tbsp unsalted, softened butter → 113 g
  • -1/2 cup brown sugar, packed → 100 g
  • -1/4 cup granulated sugar → 50 g
  • -1 large egg
  • -2 overripe bananas, mashed (about 3/4 cup) → 180 g
  • -1 cup chocolate chips → 150 g
  • -optionally you can add another 150g walnuts/pecans
  • Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • -4 oz cream cheese, softened → 113 g
  • -4 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened → 57 g
  • -1 cup powdered sugar, sifted → 120 g
  • -1/4 tsp salt
  • -Chopped walnuts and dried banana slices for garnish
  • Note: to make the dried banana slices, turn the oven on to 100°C(212°F). Slice the banana thinly and place on a baking tray that's lined with parchment paper and leave in the oven for about 1 hour.
Directions
Step 1
-Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment or silicone mats.
Step 2
-Mix dry ingredients: flours, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg.
Step 3
-Cream butter + sugars (3–4 min). Add mashed banana, egg, yolk, and vanilla.
Step 4
-Add dry ingredients gradually, then stir in chocolate chips.
Step 5
-Scoop dough about 40-45g per cookie (2 Tbsp for small, 1/4 cup for large cookies).
Step 6
-Freeze scooped dough for about 10–15 minutes.
Step 7
-Bake: Small cookies for 8–10 min and Large cookies for 13–14 min
Step 8
-Cool cookies completely.
Step 9
Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Mix in sugar, vanilla, and salt. Frost cooled cookies. Garnish if desired.
